Gall Bladder 24

The acupuncture point known as "GB 24," referred to as "Ri Yue" in pinyin or "Sun and Moon" in English, is located beneath the nipple in the 7th intercostal space (ICS) and is situated 4 cun lateral to the Anterior Midline (AML).

This acupuncture point has a wide range of potential clinical applications and can be considered for addressing various issues and symptoms, including:

  1. Liver (LV) and Gallbladder (GB) disorders, especially those involving heat and stagnation such as gallstones, hepatitis, and jaundice.

  2. LV/GB affecting the Spleen (SP), leading to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sour belching, bitter taste, and acid reflux.

  3. Emotional imbalances related to the Gallbladder, such as fearfulness, shyness, indecisiveness, timidity, and sighing.

  4. According to the Ling Shu, GB 24 (GB Front Mu) and UB 19 (GB Back Shu) are recommended for individuals experiencing frequent indecisiveness.

Common Indications:

  1. Swelling and pain in the hypochondrium

  2. Jaundice

  3. Vomiting, hiccup, acid regurgitation

Functions:

  • Regulates Gallbladder and Liver Qi

  • Reduces rebellious Qi

  • Normalizes the Middle Jiao

  • Resolves damp heat

GB 24 is associated with several important theoretical aspects that can guide the development of an effective treatment plan, including:

  • It serves as the Front Mu point for the Gallbladder (GB Front Mu).

  • It is an intersection point of the Gallbladder, Spleen, and Yang Wei Meridians.

  • For a more in-depth exploration of GB 24's functional grouping theory, one can refer to MuShu theory or explore various point categories and related theories.

Additional Information: Front-Mu points are instrumental in addressing diseases which are of the affected Zang-Fu organ, as well as those related to Yang meridians and also collaterals. They play a crucial role in treating conditions of the Six Fu-organs and also diseases affecting Yang meridians. It's worth noting that an adverse reaction upon pressing a Front-Mu point can aid in diagnosing certain conditions.

Additionally, while not necessarily clinically validated, it's worth noting that KD 20 (a local point for addressing abdominal and digestive issues) is located nearby, offering potential complementary treatment options.
