LU10
Lung 10
The acupuncture point known as "LU 10," translates to "Yu Ji" in pinyin and "Fish Border" in English. It is positioned at the midpoint on the palmar aspect of the thumb, specifically in the crease behind the thenar eminence at the transition between red and white skin.
LU 10 is associated with several therapeutic applications, primarily addressing issues related to heat in the Lung meridian and organ. These include:
· Purging both excess and deficient heat from the Lung channel and its associated organ.
· This addresses symptoms of fever and hoarseness.
· Alleviating severe sore throat accompanied by intense heat.
· Managing spontaneous bleeding linked to heat conditions.
Theoretically, LU 10 holds significance as it is identified as both a Ying Spring point and a Fire point within traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). These classifications help inform its use in treatment strategies.
While it is rare for a single acupuncture point to directly alter a diagnostic pattern in TCM, LU 10 is often considered effective in treatment plans for patients suffering from conditions like Lung Dampness with Phlegm Heat, Lung Dryness, and Lung Wind Invasion characterized by Wind Heat. Thus, this point can play a critical role in comprehensive acupuncture protocols aimed at these specific lung issues.
Ying-Spring points are characterized by the descent of qi through the meridian. These points are typically utilized when there is heat in the body and discoloration of the complexion, as they help expel heat from the meridian.
