Accepting your past.
If you are struggling to come to terms with heartbreak, the key to helping you to get over it is to acknowledge your loss and accept the fact that what happened has now become part of your past. Your past is the history of where you have come from, and only by examining your past and looking at the big picture, the good and the bad, can you break free from the bad memories and move on into the future.
Once bad memories have been eliminated, the past has the potential to become a strong platform on which to build your future. If you have suffered grief and heartbreak, it may be for a variety of reasons. These can include a romantic disappointment, a betrayal of a close friendship, career issues, or even the death of a loved one. It may seem that your whole way of life has been impacted and is stuck, limiting your ability to move on and live your life.
Accepting your loss.
If you have been aggrieved in a long-term relationship, and your hopes and dreams have been shattered, you may have some guilt feelings about the entire situation. Remember that when a relationship breaks up, the same thing happens to the dreams for the future you may have made together. A key to accepting your loss is to put aside any guilt feelings, and not try to live out the unfulfilled dreams. It may be painful but leaving the baggage behind will motivate you to get on with your life.
However, even with the best of intentions, you may find yourself from time to time revisiting the distressing experiences. Take note that you are remembering old memories which have no more significance for you, and you no longer need to feel helpless and hopeless.
Your world may have fallen apart because of grief and a broken heart, but you can take action not to stay trapped in a twilight of misery.
